Song Kul Lake – Kyrgyzstan
Song Kul Lake sits @ 3025 meters in central Kyrgyzstan … had bottle of red wine with Russian cheese, salami and bread, and took it in from a hillside vista across an afternoon.

Real great portrait at the end. It sort of resembles how I picture Mongolia looking. Did you have a difficult or easy time getting a visa to travel here?
Hi …. Yeah, this part of central Kyrgyzstan – this lake particularly – is very Mongolian looking …Visa was easy; just expensive: issued in 3 days = close to $200 for 30 days/double entry, in Urumqi, China.. Can be cheaper (300+ RMB) if you’re prepared to wait around a week for issusance.
Nice shit, Central Asia sure is one of the travel gems of this world. Kyrgyzstan is in my top 3, amazing place on so many levels!
What is your itinerary? Last year I planned to pop in the south from China and make my way north, but because of the huge bloody conflict I had to modify it, and did Ürümqi-Yining-Almaty-Shymkent-Bishkek-Karakol-Bishkek-Almaty-fly out, I’d love to go back and check out Tadjikistan and Uzbekistan too.
Happy travels!
Hi Felix. Central Asia, sure is wonderful; real travels without the backpacker/package group masses (not in autumn, anyway). Greetings from Dushanbe – Tajikistan. Been awhile since was within decent web reach … anyway, dozens of places since this post: horse-trekking in mountains behind Lake Issyuk Kol, Bishkek, Osh, across Pamirs & Wakan Valley – remote mountains and valleys – of Tajik, shadowing Afghanistan … No plans fixed: next except into Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran … then ?
Skipping KZ then? I also liked KZ very much
Yeah, couldn’t / didn’t want to wait around a week for the visa – in Urumqi; went to Kashgar – good choice. Also was only going to visit Almaty but now not at all, another time, unless I loop back as I’m heading towards Turkey … I think …
