Rostav Veliky – Russia
Rostav-Veliky forms part of the historic Golden Ring of towns outside of Moscow, where early Russian Statehood begun around 900 AD.
The Kremlin (fortress) and monasteries of Rostav Veliky, Russia
Massive white-walled fort (Kremlin) with towers, and inside church onion domes stand beside the marshy, Lake Nero.
I stayed in the 17th century inn, within the walls for two nights.
A very quiet town, today.
One evening drinking red wine by the lakeside and the next afternoon beside the inner pond – domed dusk reflections in the waters, crows and other birds yakking away above me, flying from dome to dome, and a local cat hungry for my salami and cheese.
A classic postcard town of old Russia – unscathed by tourism, for the moment. Close to time traveling. Pure Pleasure.
