Lake Atitlan – Guatemala

Room with a view – Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

Vistas of Lake Atitlan … mostly from San Pedro (where I stayed for 2 months) but also views from San Juan, above San Jorge, Santa Clara / the Indian’s Nose peak, Panajachel, San Marcos, Santiago, and shots from on the lake itself.

Still in Guatemala? what gives? Have you been mugged or threatened? Do you like Guatemalan girls? Are you having a good time? Are the people friendly, like Japan friendly or just friendly? Are there a lot of travelers and if so are they mostly other central americans? I would think that after a while you’d be bored in Guate. Sorry for so many questions I’m planning on going to Guatemala in 2 years when I graduate to discover my bloodline/lineage/where i come from. Oh yeah, do i look mayan?

    Hi Jimmy.

OK. Yeah, am still here as I love the tranquility and views of San Pedro. And yes, people are very friendly, here, in small town Mayan communities. And it is safe, no issues here. But wrong time / wrong place in Guatemala City is a sure risk. There is big Western expat, slightly hippy-ish, backpacker travel scene here but not now, in low season.

I have been here so long re-building this NEW LOOK blog – with wifi in room, so relaxing, reading, thinking about what next, and sorting out endless photos archives … I have been reclusive, mostly. But I will be out and about and traveling proper, soon, towards Mexico again, then Cuba … returning to Guatemala early next year ???

Haven’t met anyway Guate girls in the sex sense – as it’s too traditional here and Maria remains in mind. BUT yes, there’s very pretty looks here.

From what I recall in Tokyo: it seemed you have some Mayan in you ( – many people are of mixed blood in Guate).

Regards – Michael [ back to the view ... blue skies, puffy clouds, breezy, today; but assume dramatic rain, later ]

Just curious about the place you’re staying at…how is the internet service…local food…the cost to rent there on a monthly basis? I’ll be coming to Guatemala in a few weeks, plan to stay for 6 months to a year. Thanks for any info you can provide.

    Greetings Wayne

I am staying at a decent basic guesthouse using the owners wi-fi account but I suspect if you’re staying 6 – 12 months then rent a bigger room or better a house or share a large space and all facilities for maybe US$120 or much less. You can get internet installed cheaply anywhere. And also free wi-fi at many restaurants.

Food is catered for mostly by reasonable expat restaurants and local street tacos, bbq chicken, and fruit juices are also fine.

When you get here ask the expats around here: Amazing food – Smokin’ Joe’s BBQ – at Piscina Bar each Sunday, or at Buddha Bar, D’noz, Clover, for the real insider details of living here.

San Pedro is the place to do what you need to do … with your mind, body, or whatever.

    Regards – MRP
