It started 3/4 into some pork fried rice a loud crack. That startled me – cos it was in my fuckin’ mouth. My tongue lapped around and caressed a jagged edge.

Was drinking a can of beer with my street food dish of noodles (with fried egg, greens, 2 shrimps and bit of squid) when this ragged street guy wanders up to a nearby kiosk of roast meat and innards and just stares longingly into it for 10 minutes … the video says the rest.
Getting visas for Central Asia – on route
OK, the consensus amid travelers is that Central Asia is an expensive and a time-consuming hassle for obtaining visas. Unfortunately this is mostly true. Simply this region is the biggest hassle in the world BUT it can be eased considerably with some advance planning

When it comes to man-made disasters it’s still hard to top the Aral Sea disaster (for now); created by the Soviets in their attempt to turn some of their annexed territories (the Stans of Central Asia) into productive cotton growing regions. It worked.

Flaming mountains – Xinjiang, China
Outside of Turpan in Xinjiang province are the Flaming Mountains, so-named as under the mid-day sun their rutted, ravine complexion resembles red-orange-multi-colored tongues of fire. Well, so local myths have it.
