Known as the “Grand Canyon of Guinea” this mighty ravine runs for 70+ km amid the Fouta Djalon highlands. I stayed above the canyon at the village of Doucki, with the great guide Hassan Bah and family, for a few days of serene wandering.

Resurrection of the blue bee – Guinea

Blue bee escapes death by killer ants … So there I was at Guinea’s amazing Grand Canyon, in Hassan Bah’s village at Doucki, when a persistent blue bee kept buzzing me like a Kamikaze. So I swiped at it – got it; and stunned and it fell to earth, only to be revived sharply by the bites of marauding ants …

On the rough road – Guinea

Often you know when a journey will be difficult, when it with wear you out, when it will numb your bum and tire your mind but hell it will be memorable and etched in your head and so this was one – one, of 100s – that I’ll remember (assuming that a mind-rotting disease doesn’t kick in) but hell for now it’s here. But how did it begin …? I forget.
